January 10, 2008 - Update.

April is doing well, she sleeps pretty well, and except for her feedings every 3 or4 hours, she spends most of her time sleeping. She was having trouble keeping down her formula and mother's milk. Yesterday, we took her to the hospital for some special x-ray tests that showed us she has a severe reflux problem. The solution is simple, we need to mix plenty of rice cereal into the milk or formula and she can keep it down.

Nicholas continues to amaze us. He loves his sister and has been helping take care of her. He helps feed, burp, and even helps us rock her to sleep. He's also become quite the chef and kitchen helper. He helps prepare meals, he cuts and stirs-in ingredients, sets the table, and even helps do the dishes.

We continue to Nicholas 2 or 3 stories a night and lately he's really beginning to read some of the words on his own. He's been able to "sound out" words for some time now, but he's really beginning to recognize and read many words more quickly. When you combine his confidence level and the fact that he has memorized many of his stories, it's amazing to watch.

Nicholas seems to have mastered the days of the week, time, the daily schedules of the people around him, and counting. He enjoys reminding us how many days there are to Saturday, or the fact that he might not have school tomorrow because it's Thursday. He has started to memorize phone numbers and has begun calling people (especially Aunt Shirley & Uncle Tommy) to whom he wishes to speak. At first, we thought he was pretending, but we soon realized he was really dialing numbers and calling people.

More as it develops...
